English Home Learning 20th January 2020

Hello Everyone,

Due to the school closures last week I will be giving out Literacy Planet logins this week as per last week’s blog : https://batchwoodks3.school.blog/2020/01/06/english-home-learning-13th-january-2020/

I will give housepoints to students completing any tasks on Literacy Planet this week.

I know some students do prefer a writing task however, so I will also post some written tasks below:

The orange task is less challenging than the green task.

Good Luck

Happy New Year!

We will be posting English home learning tasks to this blog every Monday. Students will be given their English teacher’s email address so they can email written work directly to them. Students can also have paper copies of the tasks and exercise books or paper to complete the homework if they wish.

This week we would like to promote our subscription of Literacy Planet and encourage all our KS3 students to logon this week, if they haven’t done so already. Students will be given their login details in their English lessons this week, and we will also send a copy of these home to all the parents and carers.

Here is a copy of the letter we will be sending out in the week, which explains the program with a bit more detail:

Literacy Planet is a program with a series of literacy games. They should be pitched at an appropriate level for the student, so please let us know if you feel they are too easy or too hard, as we can adjust the levels for them. It can be accessed via their website here:

https://app.literacyplanet.com/login

Alternatively, they do have a free app for phones or tablets available if students would prefer to play the games that way. As they play, students can earn coins which they can spend on outfits and other ways to customise their avatar in the game. Students should select the Quest part of the website to complete the games and earn points and coins.

Teachers can monitor students’ progress, so it would be helpful if they completed the games as independently as possible, so we know where they need the most help going forward. or where they can be more challenged.

This week, we will give housepoints to all students who complete some tasks on Literacy Planet. We will be running a weekly leaderboard in the English Department, and more housepoints and prizes can be won by those who are topping the leaderboard, or showing the most effort.

Good luck, and please let us know if you have any questions.
